This editorial shoot was such a lovely collaboration between a group of talented COLLARTS students with handmade jewellery brand Trinkets. The brand came from a deeply personal idea. After a close friend was no longer able to wear pierced earrings following surgery, the designer developed their signature ear hooks as a comfortable alternative that still allowed her to enjoy statement jewellery and feel like herself.

The student team of Stylists Ruby Hartley and Grace Boyle worked with photographer Matilda Baumann and two Fashion Marketing students as models — Larissa Topalidis and Tayla Kelly — to create this stunning set of client images. Hair was done by emerging talent Johnny Bowker and Makeup Artist Kim Horrigan, working together to create a harmonious whole.

On Sunday, October 2, 2022, the Revival Runway team held our final runway event for the year, An Afternoon Affaire. Featuring 10 Melbourne fashion brands, two accessories brands, 22 models, and over 200 guests, the event went off with nary a hitch. The featured brands were Anna Cordell, Days of Grace, Asher + Archer, Justin Tong, Aurei Lua, Novella, MalcolmPaull, Samay Collection, Orocéo Castro and Viceta Wang. Accessories consisted of headpieces from Victoria Jane Millinery and head wraps by Three Unite. Our amazing fans dressed to impress in their best fashion, wearing pieces from the featured designers, other Melbourne brands, and their own creations.

An Afternoon Affaire brought together a thoughtful mix of Melbourne fashion brands, each with its own distinctive creative voice. From contemporary tailoring and occasionwear to artisanal accessories and innovative design, the runway highlighted the breadth of talent across the city’s independent fashion community. Art In Situ is a Melbourne demi-couture label where fashion, textiles and hand-painted art come together. Founded by Jude, the brand reflects more than 30 years of experience in the clothing industry, combined with a lifelong passion for painting and making. Each coat is individually cut, constructed and finished by hand, with painted details added after the garment is complete, making every piece one of a kind. Launched after completing a Diploma of Visual Art at RMIT, Art In Situ represents a new creative chapter, bringing together Jude’s background in fashion design, patternmaking and visual art into wearable works that are made entirely in Melbourne.

Revival Runway’s first standalone ARTISAN MARKET brought together a talented group of Melbourne makers and independent Australian brands for a relaxed day of shopping, conversation and community. From handcrafted jewellery and ceramics to natural skincare, candles and homewares, the market showcased the creativity and craftsmanship of local designers including Manta Organics, Have Mercy Jewellery, Crafty Betty, TvTherapy Jewellery, Totally Bon, Sense Products, Threadmill of Life, Web of Life, Jelly Originals, Monarch Jewellery, Velvet Slipperz, Brooki Design, Mikella Ceramics, Emipeli Design and The Essentials Lab. The market celebrated the value of supporting small creative businesses and the people behind them.

Behind the scenes, the Dref runway reflected the teamwork that brings every fashion presentation to life. Volunteer models worked closely with the hair, makeup and backstage teams to showcase Melbourne designer Tania Hanna’s latest collection, with every look carefully prepared before stepping onto the runway. From final fittings and styling to the finishing touches, the images capture the collaboration, creativity and attention to detail that helped bring Dref’s debut presentation to life.

Photographer Maria Thi Thu Thao Nguyen captured the moments that happen behind the runway, where preparation, teamwork and plenty of laughter come together. Her backstage photographs from Creative Coast highlight the friendships between the volunteer models, the quiet moments of focus before the show, and the supportive atmosphere that is such a big part of Revival Runway. The images offer a genuine glimpse into the people and community behind every runway presentation.

These backstage images offer a glimpse into the preparation behind Revival Runway’s major fashion show held on 6 May 2021 at The Third Day in Melbourne. Before the runway began, garments by 11 independent Australian designers were carefully organised, while volunteers, models and the backstage team worked together to ensure every look was ready. Photographed by Imogen Turnbull, the images capture the calm, focus and teamwork that take place before the lights go up.

These images capture the fitting sessions before the very first Queer by Design runway show, held on 24 October 2024. Designers, volunteer models and the styling team came together to prepare each look, making final adjustments and ensuring every garment reflected the vision of its creator. Featuring work by Melbourne’s queer designers and makers, the fittings highlight the collaboration, creativity and sense of community that shaped this landmark runway presentation.

Our first regional fashion show Creative Coast was held in Geelong and featured brands from the Victorian coast including those shot on models Miranda and Brigette as part of our editorial shoot: Geraldine and Birdskin

Grædance is a brand new Melbourne-based jewellery brand that was launched with the aim “to allow for the discovery of each individual’s ‘in-between’ and grey areas”. Grædance pieces are handcrafted and are not categorised by gender but rather by where they are meant to be worn. All the demi-fine jewellery pieces have been produced in silver in order to reflect the brand name. The brand features necklaces, rings and earrings in the first collection of the brand. Launched and designed by Melbourne creative Rong Chen, the brand’s demi-fine pieces were “consciously designed with consideration for changes in the wearer’s body and mood, allowing the equipment that is jewellery to evolve with the wearer”.

REVIVAL RUNWAY IV showcased the diversity of Australia’s independent fashion scene, with designers presenting collections that reflected thoughtful craftsmanship, originality and a strong commitment to conscious fashion. Melbourne labels Tulle Addict, FOOL Clothing, Mazi Melbourne, Moira Isabel, Bloodline, WOVN, Chilali and Thirty.Five were joined by Methods by Vassqo from Sydney and 9Designs from the Gold Coast, bringing together everything from upcycled textiles and deadstock fabrics to contemporary clubwear and non-gendered streetwear. The runway highlighted the creativity and innovation of independent designers who continue to shape Australian fashion on their own terms.

These editorial images were created for the WE ARE MELBOURNE runway show, held on 8 October 2023, and feature designs by Fernanda Covarrubias, Justin Tong, Design by JUDE and Carlisle Hats. The shoot celebrates Melbourne’s multicultural fashion community, showcasing garments and accessories from designers whose creative influences span countries including Mexico, Vietnam and Singapore. Together, the images reflect the diversity, craftsmanship and individual stories that shape Melbourne’s independent fashion scene.

These editorial images celebrate Melbourne fashion brand Mazi through a concept inspired by the romance and effortless style of La Dolce Vita. Featuring the handmade, limited-edition designs of founder Effie Evriniadis, the shoot draws on the brand’s signature mix of vintage influences, delicate details and layered femininity. Set against an Italian-inspired backdrop, the photographs capture the nostalgic charm and artisanal craftsmanship that have defined Mazi since 1992.

These editorial images were created for REVIVAL III, held on 26 May 2023, and feature designs by Melbourne brands Kylah Owo and Qlap. Showcasing the creativity of the city’s independent fashion scene, the shoot highlights distinctive silhouettes, thoughtful construction and contemporary styling. From sculptural design to innovative streetwear, the images reflect the diversity and originality that made the REVIVAL III runway such a celebration of local fashion talent.

These images capture the debut Revival Runway fashion show, which introduced audiences to a curated selection of independent Australian designers in an intimate salon-style presentation. Featuring around 90 looks from labels including Leonard St., BAIS and Kara Baker Couture, the runway highlighted the creativity and diversity of independent fashion from across Australia. The event brought together designers and fashion lovers in a setting that celebrated original design and local talent.

These images capture the creativity and individuality of Queer By Design, held on 24 October 2024 at Abbotsford Convent. The runway brought together Melbourne’s queer designers, makers and volunteer models for a celebration of fashion, performance and self-expression. Featuring collections by Lazarus Gordon, Wilson Jedd Adams, Milky Plug Kid, Chelsea Farquhar, The Artist Known As Foot, Jude Ng, Isadora Nim and Baaqiy, alongside performances and installations from members of Melbourne’s queer creative community, the event highlighted the talent, collaboration and diversity that continue to shape the city’s independent fashion scene.

Summer Daze, held on 27 February 2022, introduced audiences to a broad mix of independent Australian fashion, bringing together labels with very different design approaches in one collection. From relaxed everyday dressing and contemporary tailoring to thoughtfully made pieces, brands including Obus, Viceta Wang, Ricepaper, And Bear, Cazinc, Kholo, Metta Melbourne, Arlo & Olive, Keegan the Label and The Only reflected the depth and variety of Australia’s independent fashion industry. Each collection showcased its own distinctive aesthetic, highlighting the creativity, craftsmanship and individuality of designers choosing to make fashion on their own terms.
