Leonard St is one of Australia’s most successful small independent fashion labels, and is known for its use of vibrant colours and bold prints with an Australian edge.
Launched in 2004, the brand comes from founder Amanda McCarthy’s love of prints and doodling. The range offers wearable but playful styles such as high waisted pants, voluminous blouses and fluid dresses, as well as homewares and jewellery, there is even a range just for kids. Leonard St garments are produced in a range of fibres such as cotton, linen, acrylic and polyester.
With the intention of having a positive impact on the environment, Leonard St have put steps in place to avoid unnecessary waste within their supply chain including a zero waste range of products made from fabric offcuts, and saying no to single-use plastics. Some of the zero-waste offerings include scrunchies, lavender bags and totes, which ensures that every scrap of fabric is kept out of landfill.
Leonard St currently has 60 factory workers working at Ryan Bali Garment near Denpasar, where nearly 60% of the garments are produced. Although there are currently no ethical accreditations available in Bali, the owner of the factory works to ensure that the staff are paid correctly and able to work in safe conditions, as well as supporting the community by contributing to wedding costs, holidays and offering health care cards.
There are currently four Leonard St stores located across Victoria and South Australia, offering sizes 6-16 across the range.
