Remuse is a Melbourne based fashion brand, selling naturally dyed, Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified and ECA accredited designs. Designer and owner Tamara Leacock, looks to the earth for design inspiration, it is here where she finds ideas for silhouettes, shapes and colours for her garments.
Tamara works out of a small design studio in Collingwood, Victoria offering designs free from gender and often free-size garments. Collections are released quarterly on each Equinox and Solistice and are trans-seasonal.
The aesthetic of Remuse is heavily inspired by Afro-futurism and the solar system. The brand offers colourful and voluminous garments inspired by early 1980s Japanese designers. You can see this inspiration used in garments like the ‘Nuvem Tunic Dress’ dyed with organic GOTS approved indigo with a tiered skirt and overly boxy top.
The ‘Foundation Kimono’ is an example of Tamara’s impressive creativity, using scraps of cotton from her workshop as well as recycled cotton to create a tie-dyed patchwork kimono that is free from size and gender.
This ethical and sustainable brand only uses natural and vegan fibres to create the afro-futuristic looks full of unique prints and colours. Materials sourced are either deadstock or organic, Tamara uses unbleached calico as a base for many of her garments as it is cotton in its most natural form and can be dyed easily.
Most of the fabrics used can be traced back to its origins in Australia, India and Pakistan. All dyes used are either natural or GOTS approved meaning that the textiles have been traced and have been sourced responsibly.
Tamara pushes for her brand to be ethical and sustainable while maintaining her creative direction.
