Melbourne fashion brand Obus has been around for 20 years, and is beloved by customers who want to add colour and pattern to their wardrobes. Founded by designer Kylie Zerbst, the slightly quirky name comes from the German for ‘trolley bus’ and fits into the overall idea of taking customers for a journey.
“Each Obus collection is influenced by a journey, to destinations both real or imagined, and every piece is designed to help women feel empowered and inspired,” explains Kylie. Originally a ‘one woman show’, the brand now has a small team and a store located in Northcote, as well as a well designed online store.
Fans of Obus are in love with its stunning use of colour and unique prints, all in comfortable fits and classic silhouettes. There is an intrinsic ‘wearability’ with the clothes, a fun and colourful aesthetic with a strong casual edge.
“We make beautiful, practical wearables for modern women. We love colour and bold, conversation-starting prints – which is evident in any of our collections! The prints I design for each collection are exclusive, which makes those pieces extra special,” says Kylie.
Obus has a strong focus on sustainable fashion – like most fashion brands now – and produces almost all its products in Australia working with local businesses in the Australian manufacturing industry, many of which are family-owned. Obus also uses organic or natural materials including GOTS certified organic cotton, linen and non-mulesed wool. The brand has recently extended its size range up to size 18, including for its swimwear range.
