Mazi is a Melbourne fashion brand created by designer Effie Evriniadis, that is known for its vintage, quirky and feminine vibe. Effie loves details – antique lace, old world colour and exotic beading – plus a touch of sexiness.
Effie graduated from the Melbourne College of Textiles and opened the first Mazi boutique in 1992. It was quickly joined by the Mazi headquarters and a second boutique in Fitzroy.
“I still feel driven by my love of fashion and that original desire to address what is missing in my own wardrobe,” says Effie. Mazi designs are unique limited edition pieces: “I do this mindfully, I do this to ensure a high level of exclusivity.”
The name of the brand comes from the Greek for ‘together’, and that idea runs through the Mazi team and into the overall design concept. All the pieces are designed to be layered together to create what Effie calls a “very feminine layered aesthetic”.
“My design principle involves building on a black sensual fabric then adding an eye-catching feature piece to complete the outfit. The dress must not only fit perfectly, the fabric must also feel wonderful to the touch,” says Effie.
Rather than following the trends, Effie creates singular pieces that can be worn in different ways, for different occasions. “I feel that today’s fashion savvy woman looks beyond fads and trends for more timeless pieces, pieces that are of course beautiful but also affordable and this is what Mazi is about.”
Mazi offers a wide range of sizes and styles for different body types in a range of vintage style printed stretch fabrics with details in lace and other decorative trims that are all made in Melbourne. Prices from around AU$100 up to $200, with accessories around $50, and super cute knickers for only $20.
