Kara Baker is a Melbourne-based fashion designer and couturière who has influenced Australia’s fashion and design landscape since the early ‘80s. Her work has been celebrated by the National Gallery of Victoria, Vogue Australia and Creative Victoria. Kara’s designs have been worn by prominent women throughout the decades. Kara Baker Couture is appreciated by women searching for timeless elegance who have a love of beautiful textiles and a desire for the perfect fit.
There is only your size at Kara Baker Couture; the fabrics the designer uses are all natural fibres including wool, silk, cotton, and linen. Many of the fabrics are from the designer’s own curated collection of vintage textiles, strongly ticking the sustainability box.
Garments are produced using techniques applicable to small scale production, each garment is made one at a time and many are one-offs. There is always a choice of fabrics. Delivery takes 3-4 weeks and all major credit cards are accepted. Collections are designed and launched three times a year in season; Spring/Summer in October, Beach (high summer) in December and Autumn/Winter in April.
The collections are not sold at retail but by appointment to private clients directly from the designer’s atelier. Each garment is fitted and made to measure to a client’s individual size and proportions.
