Have Mercy Jewellery is made slowly, with soul, and meant to be worn like a tiny work of art

Despite only launching in February 2025, Have Mercy Jewellery is steaming ahead, growing in leaps and bounds, says Kizzi McLean [pictured below left], the founder of the brand.

“I’m both a designer and a maker. Every piece starts with an idea I sketch out, then bring to life by hand,” she explains.

“I’ve always been a hands-on, crafty person — it runs in the family. My mum was a fashion designer and my grandmother an artist, so creativity was always encouraged in our home.

“I dabbled in everything from sewing my own clothes to knitting, painting, and even building furniture. But nothing truly stuck.

“After the lockdowns, I felt a bit lost. My husband took me to a craft market to lift my spirits, and I bought my first lost wax ring — I hadn’t felt that excited about something in years.

“That ring sparked something in me, so I enrolled in a jewelry course … and never looked back.”

Uniquely, the brand’s name ‘have mercy’ is actually the meaning of Kizzi’s birth name: “It felt deeply personal and fitting for a brand that’s so close to my heart.”

Although the brand is now fully-fledged, Kizzi says it began with her just “making pieces at home for fun”.

“Friends began showing interest in my work, and soon I had more jewelry than I knew what to do with. So I set up an Instagram, built a website, and officially registered the brand — and here we are.”

INSPIRED BY OTHER MAKERS & NATURE

Kizzi is proud to point out that her inspirations come from other independent Melbourne jewellery makers, in particular the industry icon KB from Midnight Kiss Jewellery.

“I’m a big fan of Midnight Kiss Jewellery. KB has been such a gem — not only as a designer but as a mentor. She’s been incredibly generous with her support and advice throughout my journey.”

According to Kizzi, she is also inspired by nature to create “jewellery that celebrates organic shapes, unexpected beauty, and playful self-expression”.

“Every piece is handcrafted in gold and silver, using vibrant ethically sourced sapphires and gemstones. It’s made for people who aren’t afraid to stand out and express who they are.

“Honestly, I think the aesthetic is still evolving — and that’s the beauty of it. Right now, I’m especially drawn to organic, freeform designs. But art is ever-changing, and so is this brand. Keep watching — you never know what’s coming next,” she smiles.

ETHICAL JEWELLERY FULL-TIME

“Being ethical is at the core of what I do. I use recycled gold and silver, and all of my gemstones are ethically sourced. I also repurpose every scrap — nothing goes to waste if I can melt it down and use it again, I will.

“Each piece tells its own little story — made slowly, with soul, and meant to be worn like a tiny work of art. Every piece is made with real intention — from my hands to yours. I want people to feel a connection to what they’re wearing.

“Have Mercy is more than just a jewelry brand — it’s a growing community of people who embrace individuality and celebrate the joy of being different.

“I make some molds but no mass production — most of my range is one-off carefully crafted pieces that reflect the beauty of imperfection and the magic of handmade art.

“My dream is to turn Have Mercy Jewellery into a full-time career. Right now, it’s a passionate side hustle — but I’m building toward something much bigger.”
